Response sheet 7, for lecture class, Tuesday | |
In class we shall explore this website: Slavery Images: A Visual Record of the African Slave Trade and Slave Life in the Early African Diaspora 1. What images caught your eye in presenting an aspect of slavery new and unexpected to you? 2. If you could manage to find useful additional images, what would they be of, to help people better understand the complex horrors of the slave trade and slavery? The premise of this questions is that technological improvements in delivering visual culture to the American public happened only in the mid 19th century, at a late moment in the history of the slave trade and slavery, hence the visual record is relatively thin before the 1840s and 1850s. |
