1.  Thursday shall be a making class; we shall make different kinds of money.  Let’s compare past to present.  The average American in the 19th century bartered, paid via ledger accounts, and paid with money (currency and coins).  What are the different ways that you pay for things in the present?  What enables you to trust in those methods of payment?



2.  One of the main themes of this class is that every element of economic life comes with a politics of power.  So, how do the ways that you pay for things reflect a politics of power?  Your own degree of power?  The structures of power around you?
