Since the writing assignment is due today, for mercy’s sake again we will do all the readings as in-class exercises. 1. How are the current wars “in” Iraq and Afghanistan present in your lives, in the first three months of 2021? 2. How have the wars “in” Afghanistan (since 2001) and Iraq (since 2003) been present in your lives — for many of you, your entire lives?.... 3. If you were a colonial newspaper editor in 1760, why would you publish slave runaway advertisements, but not news about slave revolts? 4. If you were a rebel newspaper editor in 1776 or 1778, why would you publish news about slave revolts? 5. You are George Washington. You arrive outside Boston after the Battle of Bunker Hill, with the task of converting the local militias there into a “Continental Army.” Those militias include free black soldiers who fought heroically in the battle. So, do you thereafter include or exclude free black soldiers in the Continental Army? Why?... |
