History of American Capitalisms

Response sheet 11, before class, plus in-class writing, Tuesday

Last Thursday we compared two short documents to analyze their less apparent, underlying differences.  For today we will compare three short documents for their (less apparent, underlying) similarities.

In both cases, the aim is to read and interpret the documents not superficially for bits of information, but instead more deeply and critically for how they tried, imperfectly, to understand their changing world.

So, what are some similarities (at least five, but easily more) in the approach and argument between these three essays published in the early 1840s in three different magazines?

In addressing this question, it is advisable again to utilize the “Strategies for interpreting primary documents”.
